New Links to Cities and Day-trip Destinations

If you look to the left, you'll notice that the "Related Links" column has grown. I've just added links to all the major sites and cities we'll be visiting, especially focusing on museum links for Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Salzburg, Weimar and Amsterdam. I've also posted links to our day-trip destinations while we're in Oxford: Stonehenge/Avebury/Salisbury; Warwick Castle and Startford-upon-Avon; Burford and Bath; and the Portsmouth Royal Navy Museum and Dockyard. Within these links you'll find even more links to specific museums, sites and helpful information. Use these links as you prepare your Pre-Trip Museum Plan, as well as acquaint yourself with the cities we'll be visiting. There is an abundance of opportunities waiting for you—and since we have limited time in most places, planning ahead will help you get the most out of your visits. To be honest—it's going to be overwhelming: some much to do, so little time. I strongly encourage you to read and plan ahead. Every moment is precious—you'll want to get the most out of your travel.

Harry Potter, LORD OF THE RINGS, and ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Are you a Harry Potter fan? A Lord of the Rings devotee? How about Alice in Wonderland? Do you know each of the above has connections to Oxford?  "Google" Harry Potter, Tolkein, or Lewis Carroll + Oxford and see what pops up. If you're interested in any one of the above, plan to scope out the Oxford landmarks associated with each. For a fee, there are daily walking tours and bus tours you can take with professional guides. But with just a little research, you can plot your own adventures for free!

Pizza & Pop Get-together

Just a reminder that this coming Monday, December 8, at 5:00 p.m. in CMU #205, we'll have our ever-popular "Pizza & Pop Get-together" with former Eurospring students. It's a great opportunity for you to ask questions of and to talk with several Eursospring veterans. And yeah—the pizza and pop are really free! Hope to see you all there!

International Prepaid Phone Cards

Many of you may want to phone back to the U.S. while you're in Oxford, as well as back to the U.S. from other countries while we're traveling on the continent for three weeks. A convenient and inexpensive way of doing this is using prepaid phone cards. One of the best that I've used is Nobelcom. I used these during Eurospring 2005, as did many of my students, and we were happy that we did. It can get very expensive calling direct or collect or reversing the charges using the pay phones in Wycliffe Hall as, unfortunately, several students discovered! (How does $65.00 for a twelve minute call grab ya?)  Follow the Nobelcom.com link to the left to check out Nobelcom's rates from the United Kingdom back to the U.S. If you find a lower rate, let us know!
